Meet the Artist
Kelly Higgs was born in South Africa and grew up on a sugar cane farm in Zululand. Her artistic talent and passion was evident at an early age with a particular focus on flowers and all things botanical.
She studied Graphic Design after school and worked in that field for a number of years. In 2003 she held her first solo exhibition of original paintings in Johannesburg which was an immediate sell-out. Since then she has had several more solo exhibitions in South Africa all of which have been extremely successful.
In 2004 her work was accepted into the highly acclaimed Lucy B. Campbell Gallery in London’s Kensington Church Street where it continues to attract ardent buyers. Her paintings have rapidly become extremely sought-after.
Kelly married in 2006 and moved with her husband to the Cotswolds in England, where she currently lives and works. The other ‘love of her life’ is Romeo, her brown Burmese cat who lives in South Africa with his grandparents and she misses him every day!
This is Kelly Higgs’ first series of prints. Inspired by her passion for antique oriental wall coverings, chinoiserie and floral patterns, the original idea was to paint pieces for the artists’ own home. The concept has developed into exquisite works of art, accessible to the public. The subject matter differs from that of her original paintings though it continues to portray her fresh and beautifully detailed style. Kelly’s paintings are highly decorative and there is no hidden meaning or abstract reference in anything she creates, the purpose of her art is entirely to delight the viewer.
Kelly’s original paintings are sold exclusively in England from the gallery www.lucybcampbell.com and in South Africa from Cape Town based, Elana Brundyn www.iart.co.za .
